Hiking around Beavers Bend State Park

Beavers Bend State Park has hiking and nature trails around Broken Bow Lake and the Mountain Fork River. TravelOK and Oklahoma State Parks materials describe the David Boren Hiking Trail system as several named segments you can mix and match. Official trail names commonly listed:

  • Beaver Lodge Trail (about 1 mile)

  • Cedar Bluff Nature Trail (about 1 mile)

  • Beaver Creek Trail (about 1 mile)

  • Southpark Trail (about 1 mile)

  • Lookout Mountain Trail (about 1.5 miles)

  • Deer Crossing Trail (about 2 miles)

  • Skyline Trail (about 5 miles; more challenging, with creek crossings and steep grades)

TravelOK also notes longer combinations (for example Beaver Lodge to Forest Heritage Center) and that trail markers use distinct colors. Park materials ask hikers to register at the Forest Heritage Center or Nature Center before longer hikes. Confirm trail status and closures with the park office (commonly listed: 580-494-6300).

For guests who want a cabin base for hiking days, see our one-bedroom cabins for hiking in Broken Bow. Our Beavers Bend cabin rentals are all close to the park.

ATV and UTV rentals and trail rides

Local companies rent ATVs and UTVs for exploring the area, and riders on national-forest land must stay on routes marked open on the current map. Two rental companies we verified:

  • Captain’s Hideaway Powersports Rentals — TravelOK lists ATV/UTV and Jeep rentals for self-guided rides toward Ouachita Mountain off-road trails. Address listed: 5375 N US Hwy 259, Broken Bow. Phone listed: 580-306-5150. Confirm age, license, deposit and trailer requirements with them before you book.

  • Bandits ATV and Boat Rentals — The company’s own site lists street-legal and off-road UTV rentals and boat/pontoon rentals in Hochatown / Broken Bow, with an address at 9160 N US Hwy 259, Broken Bow. Phone listed: 580-494-3333.

Official riding rules matter. On the Ouachita National Forest, the U.S. Forest Service requires OHVs (ATVs, UTVs, dirt bikes and similar) only on roads and trails designated open on the current Motor Vehicle Use Map (MVUM). MVUMs are reissued regularly; riders are responsible for using the current map. Do not assume which forest trails allow ATVs — check the Forest Service OHV page and the current Oklahoma MVUM, or call the local Forest Service office before you ride. Riding off designated routes can damage land and wildlife habitat and may violate federal rules.
